Alexis Le Borgne: An Artist Passionate About Light and Color

Alexis Le Borgne is a contemporary artist whose work is marked by an in-depth exploration of the interactions between light and color. Passionate about soft pastels, he uses this medium to capture fleeting moments in nature and scenes from everyday life with vibrant intensity. His ability to manipulate the nuances and textures of soft pastels allows him to create compositions of incomparable visual richness.

From a very young age, Alexis developed a love for drawing and painting. After studying at the School of Fine Arts and mastering other mediums as well, he refined his practice of soft pastels—a technique that allows him to work with great spontaneity while offering an infinite range of creative possibilities.
Known for his ability to capture light and play with color with rare precision and sensitivity, his work is often described as vibrant and emotionally moving. His style stands out for its bold use of hues and meticulous attention to detail, creating works that are both realistic and infused with a poetic touch.

Three Exclusive Compositions

To mark the beginning of our collaboration, Alexis Le Borgne created three original compositions using exclusively Pastels Girault. These works are inspired by a Japan-influenced theme, an artistic direction Alexis explores with passion. Each composition reflects the beauty and serenity of Japanese aesthetics, showcasing the exceptional quality and richness of the pigments in our pastels. Each piece reflects Alexis’s technical mastery and artistic sensitivity, transforming our pastels into true tools of visual poetry.

  • “NIWA” : Niwa” means “garden” in Japanese. This set is designed to evoke mineral tones through a range of colored grays, and vegetal tones through warm and cool greens. It is built on the balance between these two elements to offer a natural, subtle harmony that reflects the sense of calm and tranquility that emanates from nature.

  • “WABI SABI” : Wabi-sabi is a Japanese life philosophy and aesthetic principle that finds beauty in impermanence and in imperfect, simple things. Created by the masters of the tea ceremony, it is connected to various traditional arts (pottery, architecture, gardens, floral art, etc.). Wabi-sabi celebrates raw materials enhanced by the passage of time.
  • This set translates that spirit through muted, deep, restrained, and refined colors, echoing the tones of rough ceramics, clay, raw wood, the brown-greens of young buds, the leaves of a drying ikebana arrangement, and the colored grays of dawn or dusk.

  • “AMATERASU” : Kami and the Sun Goddess in Japan.
This set of warm tones was designed to express the soft, radiant, and subtle warm colors of early morning or the final moments of the setting sun. It is perfectly suited for portraiture, floral art, landscapes, still life, and even wildlife art. Each pastel stick has been carefully selected to maximize creative possibilities and allow artists to create and refine new colors across a wide range of subjects. The palette is balanced with saturated and light tones for highlights, mid-tones, and darker shades for shadows and transitions.
